In this application we are making an equipment marker tag for data centers. We engraved it on Vision’s EXPRESS Small Engraving Machine with Expert Software. Although Expert Software is not required, it is recommended when creating engraving fill patterns for improved results. The material used is 2-Ply 1/16” Yellow Engravers Plastic with a Black Core, secured with a Multi Mat, while a .060” FLX Cutter and Dust Collection System were used for engraving and debris removal.

Making Equipment Marker Tags Standards.

In a data center, the viewing distance of a pole or equipment marker tag depends on the font size and viewing conditions, When making equipment marker tags follow standards like ANSI Z535.2 and ANSI/TIA-606.

The industry benchmark dictates that a marker tag can be viewed from 25 feet away for every 1 inch of character height under favorable lighting conditions. Under poor lighting or unfavorable conditions, that distance drops to 15 feet of viewing distance per inch of font height.

While a data center’s layout looks organized on software like DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management), the physical floor is a dense maze of identical cabinets, thousands of cables, and high-voltage power lines. Making equipment marker tags help bridge the gap between digital maps and physical reality.
