DRAWBARS / COLLETS Collet spindles are typically used for deep engraving into hard materials such as brass and aluminum. They are different from top load spindles in that the cutter is held at the bottom of the spindle (when using a split collet) eliminating vibration when cutting into these harder materials. Tool life will also increase when using a collet spindle. Collet spindles can also accommodate different diameter cutters by changing the collet and/or draw bar. A. Split Collet – Used for holding cutters at the bottom of the spindle when doing light milling, cutouts, & other heavy engraving. Split collets hold both long & short cutters.
